More than 700,000 of Komerční banka's clients are now using Internet banking
Prague, 8 March 2010 - As at end-2009, the number of users of the Mojebanka Internet banking channel increased by 20.7% y/y to 703,500. Komerční banka's clients made more than 96 million transactions (up by 2%) via all direct banking channels in 2009.
In 2009, 120,000 of KB's clients newly set up the Mojebanka internet banking service, its complementary part being Expresní linka Plus, with their bank account. They made altogether 46.2 million transactions totalling CZK 6,710 billion over the Internet (up by 11.5% y/y) last year.
"Without any exaggeration, Internet banking has become a fixture in our clients' life. In addition to the rising number of users and transactions, this is also borne out by the fact that increasing numbers of clients get down to their banking operations after work in the evening, during weekends, or, say, when watching the Olympics," said Mojmír Prokop, Head of Direct Banking at Komerční banka, adding that, for example, during the ice hockey match between the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Komerční banka's clients made 12,999 transactions totalling almost CZK 1.7 billion over the Internet.
PC banking, used by KB's corporate clients (the Profibanka, Přímý kanál and Multicash services), has become the second most popular direct banking channel. Users made 44.8 million transactions (down by 4% y/y) via this channel last year. The drop in the number of transactions through applications used by corporate clients was mainly caused by clients' lower economic activity in the period of recession; in fact, the number of clients using this service remained constant in comparison with 2008.
Transactions in the Mobilní banka application in the mobile telephones of KB's clients rose the most in percentage terms in 2009. From the keyboard of their handsets, users made a total of 140,000 transactions (up by 41.2% y/y). However, despite its dynamic growth mobile banking continues to be the least important among direct banking channels, accounting for approximately 0.15% of total direct banking transactions.
The number of transactions made using one of KB's direct banking services is rising every year. While in 2004 KB's clients made somewhat less than 75 million transactions without going to a branch, in 2007 it was as many as 90 million transactions. Thus, Komerční banka and its clients will attack the mark of 100 million online transactions using direct banking this year.
