Corporate Social Responsibility
Komerční banka, part of the Société Générale international group, realizes its business activity with regard to the needs and interests of the entire human community. Our aim is to contribute to the common good at an economic, social and ecological level. Komerční banka's social responsibility is based on respect for the values and principles formulated, among others, in these key documents::
- The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and related Conventions (in particular the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights)
- The main conventions of the International Labour Organization
- The Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage
- OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) Directive for multinational enterprises
In areas connected with ecological, social and ethical themes, we follow the twelve sector and inter-sector policies employed within the Société Générale group.
Examples of KB's socially responsible activity
In the economic sphere, for example, Komerční banka consistently pays heed to responsible risk management and transparency. Strict rules apply to employees' conduct and behaviour, which protect the bank against corrupt practice.
Measures which reduce the bank's operational impact on its surroundings contribute to protecting the environment. Since the year 2009, for example, all KB employees have the opportunity to sort waste. In the year 2015, collection boxes for used batteries were placed in all KB buildings. Employees can even use them for batteries from their homes.
Komerční banka also ensures the take-back of empty print cartridges and toners, light bulbs, building and kitchen waste, and air-conditioning coolant. Since the year 2011, KB has purchased green energy, and the use of LED lighting is standard in all KB buildings. This is part of the reason why electricity consumption in the year 2015 fell by 4.4% compared to the previous year.
Komerční banka's strategic vision in the sphere of human resources consists of building long-term partnerships with employees. KB is open to all people, and respects their diversity. Just in the year 2015, for example, it employed 85 people with disabilities. The bank prepares a wide menu of educational activities and programmes for employees of the KB group, which 79% of colleagues availed of in the year 2015.
In relation to the public, KB is involved in supporting cultural events, sports, education and, last but not least, supporting socially and mentally disadvantaged people.
Five strategic priorities
In terms of its relation to social responsibility, Komerční banka's activity is based on five strategic pillars.
This is based primarily on applying the General Principles of Ecologically and Socially Responsible Conduct in all the bank's business activities.
Offers of banking services on the principle of solidarity
Komerční banka already has a number of products and services in its portfolio which fall into the sphere of so-called green and solidary products, and is constantly working on their expansion.
KB pays heed to compliance with equal employment opportunities, and builds long-term partnership relationships with its employees. It supports gender diversity, employment of disabled persons and fair remuneration. It also offers employees a wide range of educational programmes and courses.
Environment and Responsible Sourcing
In the sphere of environmental protection, KB strives primarily to reduce its operational impact on its surroundings. For example, adopted measures have led to reducing paper consumption, proper and economical handling of waste and energy, and monitoring of business trip and transport expenses.
