Employees of the Komerční banka Group collected CZK 187,197.22 in a special account of Nadace Jistota [Jistota Foundation]. The Foundation's Board of Trustees decided yesterday to top up this amount to CZK 250,000 and to use this contribution for the reconstruction of SOS children's villages in Haiti.

Two SOS children's villages, two schools, another eight facilities for children, dozens of community centres and many other facilities throughout the country can help up to 40,000 children and their family members.

"We have very good experience with help for SOS villages in the Czech Republic. Most of the employees who have provided a contribution to the reconstruction of devastated Haiti have also been in favour of this choice. The decision in favour of SOS villages has therefore been quite unequivocal," says Jaroslav Říšský, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Jistota Foundation.

The Hermann Gmeiner School attached to the SOS children's village at Santo has provided temporary shelter to 290 children who lost their parents during the earthquake or got lost in the chaos following the disaster. Another approximately 100 children are to be accepted very soon. Since 30 January, SOS children's villages have been taking care of the 33 children who were the victims of an attempted abduction to the US for adoption. The SOS children's village movement is actively searching for all children's parents or relatives, while seeking to help the children stay in their natural environment, or providing or trying to find alternative care primarily in Haiti.

The KB Group employees' gift will mainly help to provide shelter to parentless children in both SOS children's villages in Haiti, contribute to the repair of the damaged infrastructure of the Santo children's village and to the construction of a new SOS children's village in Haiti, and help to obtain supplies of food, water and medicines for the residents of the villages.
