Gartner, Inc., a research and advisory company, has published the names of the three finalists of the Gartner Business Intelligence Excellence Award, an international competition for the best business intelligence (BI) solution. One of the companies that have qualified for the EMEA Business Intelligence Award 2010 finals is Komerční banka. Participants in the Gartner Business Intelligence Summit will select the winner in London on 1 February.

"Komerční banka's success provides further evidence that business intelligence projects implemented in the Czech Republic feature a world-class standard and meet the most stringent criteria," says Oldřich Příklenk, head of the Czech representative of Gartner, adding: "This annual edition is good advertisement for all of Central Europe, which has its representatives in the finals of the award for the very first time."

Pavel Čejka, Komerční banka Executive Director, Strategy and Finance, comments on the great benefits of BI: "I believe that one of the strengths of financial management at KB is the existence of a unified database and performance indicators, which are interconnected and focused not only on financial data, which I consider to be a matter of course, but also on business, product, risk, operating and other information." He underlines the success in international competition by recommending: "My experience tells me that emphasis on ‘one version of the truth viewed from different perspectives' and investments in this area have really paid off."

Business intelligence has been developing at KB for more than ten years; BI is currently also focusing on providing services within the KB Group. Credibility, transparency and flexibility are the key for these services.

The robust Enterprise DWH concept, based on first-class technologies (Teradata, Informatica PowerCenter, IBM Cognos, Sybase Power Designer), supported by a strong internal team backed by a sponsor, and complete with external partners (Accenture, Ness Technologies, Profinit, Reporters), are the pillars that make it possible to meet these challenging requirements. User metadata and an information quality programme are integral parts.

Gartner Business Intelligence Award is dedicated to promoting excellence in Business Intelligence and successful Performance Management projects. The award takes place in North America alternating with Europe and is intended for end-user organisations. A team of analysts evaluates all entries first of all. The best three finalists then present their case at the Gartner Business Intelligence Summit. The summit participants then vote on the winner. The first year of the award took place in the US in 2005. Besides Komerční banka, EuroChem (Russian Federation) and JD Williams (UK) are the three finalists this year.
