What is a QR payment

A QR payment will make the payment of invoices or the placing of other bank transfers easier for your customers. They no longer need to waste time by entering payment information. You will place a QR code on your printed invoice containing all relevant payment information. Your clients will scan the QR code using the bank application and a payment order with the correct data will be generated automatically. Making a payment is very fast, easy and without the risk of errors.

QR payments are a standard part of advance and final invoices, payment terminals as well as customer portals of companies. Why make your customers fill in payments manually when it can be done automatically.

Advantages for the issuer of documents with a QR payment

  • QR payment codes can be easily added to any printed and electronic documents.
  • Scanning a QR code is easier and faster than copying data to a payment order.
  • You won't need to look up payments and settle disputes due to incorrectly entered data.
  • The QR code can be scanned from electronic invoices either directly on the screen where the client is viewing the invoice or directly from a file (without taking pictures or scanning).
  • QR payments are supported by most banks in the Czech Republic.

Graphic design

The graphic design of a QR payment code is easily distinguishable from other types of QR codes. It consists of a black line around the QR code itself and its silent zone. It is marked as a "QR payment" at the bottom.

1. What is a QR payment?

A QR payment is a method of recording payment information in the format of a special QR code. All payment information, such as the recipient's account number, amount and currency, due date and additional symbols, is transferred to a string with a defined unified structure within the CBA (Czech Banking Association) Standard, which is then used to create a QR code. Such a QR code can be simply scanned for instance using your mobile phone and the payment is then made easily with the mobile banking app support.

2. What data does a QR payment contain?

A QR payment can contain complete payment data (the recipient's account number, amount and currency, variable symbol, constant symbol, specific symbol, due date and a message for the recipient). The only mandatory information is the recipient's account number.

3. Which documents can QR payments be used for?

A QR payment can be easily added to any invoice, settlement or other payment documents (both printed and electronic).

4. Can my customer or business partner pay the QR payment from any bank account?

Yes, it is a very popular method of payment and is supported by most mobile banking applications in the Czech Republic.

5. How will my customers/business partner use QR payments?

They will scan the QR payment using the mobile banking application of their bank. A payment order will be filled automatically with the correct data.

6. Why should I have a QR payment on my documents?

QR payments are always correct. This means you won't need to handle complaints due to an incorrectly copied account number, variable symbol and such.

7. What do I need to do to introduce QR payments on my documents?

If you are using an accounting or ERP system to issue invoices, check with your provider if they support QR payments. You can also send us the name of the software provider and of the software so we can check it for you.
You can also use open-source codes for the creation and validation of QR payments, such as www.qr-platba.cz (Czech version only).

8. What are the costs of implementing QR payments? Is this service FREE?

There are no additional costs related to QR payments (no licenses or registration). QR payments can be quickly implemented into your projects thanks to its open and simple format. Format documentation and relevant libraries for the creation and reading of QR codes are available for free.

9. Which types of payments can QR codes be used for?

There are 3 types of QR payments (payment order, standing payment order and direct debit). Therefore, you can use a QR payment to make a one-time payment, create a standing order or direct debit. It depends on which format you prefer.

10. What should I do if I have questions?

Send us an email at qrplatby@kb.cz, we would be happy to help. Information is also available at www.qr-platba.cz (Czech version only).
