The winners of the 15th edition of the prestigious Fincentrum Bank of the Year awards are known

Press release

Prague, 23 November 2016 – The 15th edition of the Fincentrum Bank of the Year competition ended in the Žofín Palace in Prague on 23 November 2016. Albert Le Dirac’h, Komerční banka’s Chairman and CEO, accepted the award for the overall winner and the title Bank of the Year. Allianz pojišťovna won the title The Insurance Company of the Year for the second time in a row. Českomoravská stavební spořitelna was elected The Building Society of the Year.

Fincentrum is the General Partner of the Fincentrum Bank of the Year competition; the Main Partners are EY Česká republika, a consultancy, and Trask solutions, and consulting and technology company.

“In its CEO, Albert Le Dirac’h, who has won the title as The Banker of the Year 2016, Komerční banka has found an excellent leader. It is also thanks to his clear vision and his courage to take managerial decisions that KB is developing its leading position in a number of segments of the banking market. The fact that KB is a traditional and large bank does not detract from its ability to innovate or its appetite to invest in the security of online finance management,” Petr Stuchlík, a Fincentrum founder and the chairman of the organising committee, has commented on the results.

Česká spořitelna has retained its last year’s primacy in The Most Trustworthy Bank of the Year category, in which the rating is determined by consumers themselves as part of a STEM/MARK survey. Česká spořitelna has also won the first place in The Mortgage of the Year category and in The Bank without Barriers category. In the latter category, disabled clients themselves rate the accessibility of banks by way of mystery shopping under the sponsorship of Konto Bariéry.

Air Bank has become The Most Dynamic Bank of the Year 2016 for the fourth time. “Air Bank bets on a very proactive approach to clients, and it is also thanks to this that it has attracted as many as half a million clients since its establishment. To the Czech market, it brings a number of breakthrough innovations, which it is also able to launch quickly in practice. For example, in 2016 it was the first bank on the Czech market to launch contactless withdrawals from ATMs, which are more convenient for clients and also prevent card scanning and other fraudulent practices,” Pavel Riegger, Head of Financial Services at EY, a long-standing partner of The Most Dynamic Bank of the Year category, comments on Air Bank’s victory.

Air Bank has also retained its victory in The Online Bank of the Year 2016 category. “Air Bank benefits from simple and user-friendly online banking. Thanks to this, and thanks to investing in an ATM network, it does not have to roll out an extensive branch network and yet it is a fully-fledged bank for clients even in places where a bank branch cannot be operated for economic reasons,” adds Filip Tománek, CEO of Trask solutions, the partner of this category.

According to the expert jury, UniCredit Bank Czech Republic and Slovakia has entered the best bank account in the Fincentrum Bank of the Year competition this year. Its U konto has won in the category The Bank Account of the Year 2016. In the category The Private Bank of the Year, sponsored by the exclusive information website at MotejlekSkocdopole.com, J&T Banka has won. Thus, starting from the third place in 2014 and the second place in 2015, this year it has achieved overall victory in this prestigious category, the winner of which is selected on the basis of recommendations from Czech and Slovak billionaires.

Despite the failed pension reform, saving schemes for retirement continues to be a product viewed as one of the pillars of personal finance, providing for retirement outside the State-guaranteed pension system. Allianz penzijní společnost, which in 2015 was able to provide its clients with the best growth of their funds on the Czech market among pension funds, has won the title The Pension Company of the Year 2016.

Allianz pojišťovna has taken a complete primacy in the insurance categories of this year’s Fincentrum Bank of the Year, for the second time in a row. In addition to the title The Insurance Company of the Year 2016, it has also won the titles The Car Insurance Policy of the Year 2016 and The Life Assurance Policy of the Year 2016. “On the occasion of the announcement of last year’s results, I spoke about the exceptional nature of Allianz pojišťovna, the first ever to win all three insurance categories within a single edition of the competition. The fact that it has managed to repeat this hat trick clearly documents the excellent shape of this insurance company and the quality of its products,” said Mr Stuchlík.

Albert Le Dirac’h, CEO of Komerční banka, which has also won the overall victory and the title of The Bank of the Year 2016, has been voted The Banker of the Year 2016 by the CEOs of all the reviewed banks. The CEOs of all the reviewed insurance companies have elected Martin Žáček, the CEO of Uniqa pojišťovna, as The Insurer of the Year 2016 for the second time in a row.
