The change will be handled on an individual basis. We will communicate everything well in advance and provide clear instructions throughout the process.
The current solution (a smart card reader and plastic smart card) will be replaced with a new solution: a small USB security key. Its size and appearance are similar to a standard USB flash drive.
The reasons for this change are:
Improved security (more modern technology and greater resistance to misuse).
Standardization and simplification of the solution (fewer dependencies on external card readers and an easier user experience).
Future development (smart cards are reaching the end of their technological lifecycle, while USB security keys provide a sustainable long-term solution).
We recommend considering whether you still use the smart card and whether it is actually necessary to replace it. For example, if you log in to Mojebanka Business, you can use the KB Key mobile application instead. In some cases, smart cards were issued in the past to users who do not actively use internet banking services.
If you no longer need the smart card, we recommend having it blocked.
If you actively use your smart card, you do not need to take any action at this time. Over the coming months, we will contact you directly and provide further instructions regarding the replacement process.
Yes. An update to the fee schedule is expected during May 2026.
The communication of the updated fees and the client's consent will be an essential part of the replacement process itself. Any applicable charges will be clearly communicated before the exchange is carried out.
Yes. The USB security key functions in the same way as the current smart card used together with a card reader connected to a USB port on your PC or laptop.
If you are currently able to use an external USB smart card reader, the USB security key should work without any issues. It will also work for users who currently use a built-in card reader.
The only situation where problems may occur is if the USB port itself is completely blocked or disabled by your organization's security policies. In such cases, please contact your IT department to verify whether USB security keys are permitted.
The compact, highly secure USB token is designed for robust user authentication and reliable smart card operations using a built-in nanoSIM-format smart card.
The device features a modern USB-C interface. Thanks to the USB CCID (Chip Card Interface Device) standard, the token offers fast and easy deployment with true plug-and-play functionality, eliminating the need for complex driver installation.
The token includes a pre-inserted smart card that is personalized during manufacturing. The smart card is permanently integrated and cannot be removed.
Use detailed PDF guide steps. Administrator permissions and access to the user folder are required for successful completion. Run the file with a regular double-click under the currently logged-in user and, if necessary, log in as an administrator only after the operating system prompts.
